Irene Stevens

Elder and Knowledge Keeper

Irene Stevens is a respected Elder born in Bawaating, the Anishinaabe name of the place now called Sault Ste. Marie. She is highly regarded for her extensive traditional knowledge and teachings and understandings of Treaties. She shared her upbringing with the film team, including experiences of fishing and trapping with her parents and reflections on the deep connections between Anishinaabe identity and the land.
